Built-Up Felt Roof Systems

Get In Touch

Built-up felt roofing is a time-tested solution made up of multiple layers of bitumen (asphalt or coal tar) and reinforcing fabrics like fiberglass or organic felts. These layers create a robust, waterproof membrane, ideal for flat or low-pitch roofs.

Installation matters. To get the most out of your felt roof, it’s important that it’s applied properly. At CRS, our team of experienced professionals installs, replaces, and repairs a range of hot and cold applied elastomeric felt systems, all backed by manufacturer guarantees and warranties.

The primary advantages of a felt roof

Built-up felt roofs are renowned for their longevity and resistance to weathering. They’re commonly used on commercial, industrial, and some residential buildings.

Here’s why they’re a solid choice:

  • Waterproofing: Offers excellent waterproofing, keeping your building safe from water damage.
  • Durability: Known for reliability, felt roofs stand the test of time with minimal maintenance.
  • Cost-effective: A more affordable roofing solution compared to other materials, without sacrificing quality.
  • Versatility: Ideal for flat or low-pitch roofs, making it a great option for all kinds of buildings.
  • Low maintenance: Requires only periodic inspections and simple repairs to maintain top performance.

Methods of built-up felt application

We offer two types of application for built-up felt roofing: hot applied and cold applied.

Hot applied

Also known as ‘torch-on’, this method uses a gas torch to bond the bitumen to the surface, creating a seamless membrane.

  • Quick application: More efficient than some other methods, speeding up installation.
  • Uniform and durable: Known for its clean finish and resistance to harsh conditions like UV rays and temperature fluctuations.

Cold applied

Cold applied roofing doesn’t require heat, making it a safer option for installations. The felt is either mechanically fixed or bonded with self-adhesive.

  • Safer: No gas torches or hot asphalt, so there’s no fire risk.
  • Durable and lightweight: Provides long-lasting protection without adding extra weight to the building structure.

Regular inspections will help ensure your felt roof stays in top shape, extending its life and performance. Our team can help you choose the right method based on your project needs.
