A major healthcare re-roofing project delivered with precision, sensitivity, and technical excellence.

Complete Roofing Systems (CRS) was appointed by Integrated Health Projects (IHP) — the joint venture between VINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine — to deliver the full roofing and wall‑cladding package for the RAAC roof replacement at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

This safety‑critical project replaced legacy Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) components with new, robust roofing and façade systems designed for long‑term performance in a demanding hospital environment.

Project Complexity

The project was delivered in two major phases:

  1. Initial works, followed by a full demobilisation
  2. Removal of the temporary scaffold “hat”
  3. Re‑mobilisation to undertake cladding and finishing works

This unusual sequencing demanded flexible project management, tight communication, and close coordination with IHP’s logistics, scaffolding and crane teams.

A major advantage: CRS is approved to install all major roofing and cladding systems, allowing both metal roofing and flat roofing packages to be delivered by a single contractor, reducing interfaces and eliminating the risks of clashes between trades.

CRS delivered a full suite of high‑performance systems to upgrade the hospital roof and façades.

1. Main Pitched Roof – 1,300m²

  • Rockwool acoustic fillers & membranes
  • Euroclad VCL
  • A1‑rated glasswool insulation

  • 0.9mm aluminium standing seam finish

This system provided exceptional thermal performance, acoustic control, and long‑term resilience.

2. Main Flat Roof – 350m²

Bauder Total Roof System (0.16 U‑Value)
With:

  • Baudertec KSD VCL
  • BauderROCK tapered insulation
  • Baudertec KSA Duo underlayer
  • Bauder K5K capping sheet

A robust, fully bonded warm‑roof specification ideal for busy hospital environments.

3. Vertical Wall Cladding – 200m²

Eurobond F5 Vertical Panel System (0.24 U‑Value)
A non‑combustible, thermally efficient system ensuring long‑term durability and clean aesthetics.

4. Bespoke Aluminium Louvre System – 150m²

  • 2mm PPC aluminium fins
  • Installed onto a bespoke aluminium support system

5. Perimeter Fascia, Soffit & Gutters – 190lm

  • Custom 2mm powder‑coated aluminium fabrications

Communication & Project Control

CRS places heavy emphasis on communication clarity and commercial transparency. Clients know who is responsible for what, and escalation routes are always clear.

Internally, CRS operates with live, real‑time project dashboards — more like an investment‑bank trading floor than a traditional contractor — allowing teams to spot issues early, work collaboratively, and maintain precise cost control.

Working Within an Operational NHS Hospital

CRS followed the strict NHS ProCure22 protocols outlined in the subcontract, including:

  • “No Defects at Completion” quality standard
  • Adherence to hospital safety and infection‑control procedures
  • Coordinated access and delivery windows
  • BIM integration and digital handover requirements
  • Compliance with all CDM 2015 duties

This ensured uninterrupted clinical services throughout the works — a fundamental requirement of the contract.
