Roof refurbishment delivered without disruption to Aldi’s trading

As part of Aldi’s ongoing Project Fresh programme, Aldi appointed Complete Roofing Systems (CRS) to deliver a full roof refurbishment at its 1,578 sq m Irlams o’ th’ Height store in Salford. The project included new vertical slate cladding to the elevations and a single ply membrane system to the flat roof areas.

We delivered the roofing works while the store remained fully operational, carefully phasing the programme to maintain customer access and minimise disruption throughout.

Combining vertical slating with single ply roofing

We removed the existing façade materials before installing new vertical slate cladding to the elevations. The new slating provides a robust, low-maintenance finish while improving weather resistance and giving the refurbished store a clean, contemporary appearance.

Following the slating works, we refurbished the flat roof areas with a durable single ply membrane system. The system provided:

Reliable long-term waterproofing
A durable finish suited to the retail environment
Efficient installation to support the programme
Improved roof performance

By delivering both the vertical slating and flat roofing works, we could coordinate the different elements as a single refurbishment programme and maintain continuity across the project.

Working around a live retail environment

Keeping the store open throughout the refurbishment was a key requirement. With customers and staff using the supermarket each day, we carefully planned and phased our activities to allow construction work to continue safely alongside normal retail operations.

Our site team coordinated:

Deliveries and plant movements around store operations
Safe segregation between construction activity and customers
Working areas and access routes
Noise and disruption

This allowed Aldi to continue trading throughout the works without interruption to customer access.

The Irlams o’ th’ Height refurbishment forms part of Aldi’s wider Project Fresh programme, which is transforming stores across the UK.

One of more than 200 Aldi stores we’ve completed across the UK, this project forms part of our continued work with Aldi to deliver specialist roofing and cladding programmes within live trading environments.

The works have improved the roof and façade performance of the store while giving the building a durable external finish. Most importantly, Aldi remained open throughout the refurbishment, allowing the store to continue serving its local community without disruption.
